In pursuit of a sustainable future: the Gaming1 2023 ESG Report is out

We are pleased to announce the publication of our second Sustainability Report, highlighting our ongoing commitment to sustainability, corporate responsibility and responsible gaming as a Belgian leader in games of chance.

Nicolas Leonard, Chief Strategy Officer at Gaming1:

"2023 was a year marked by a series of regulatory changes in Belgium. Nevertheless, we proactively evolved our ESG strategy and its implementation in line with our strategic and financial objectives. And we can be proud of the progress our company has made in this area in this complicated context. It is with great satisfaction that we publish this report today."

  • 2023: setting our commitments in stone
2023 was a milestone year for us, marked by the publication of our first ever ESG report. This foundational document set in stone our commitments for the future, outlining our commitment to environmental, social and governance principles.

  • New EcoVadis and Top Employer recognitions
For the second year in a row, our HQ1 headquarters in the heart of Liège has been awarded a silver medal by EcoVadisfollowing a comprehensive sustainability assessment. This prestigious recognition places us in the top 15% of the highest-rated companies audited by EcoVadis worldwide, highlighting our commitment to sustainable business practices.
We are also proud to have retained our title as a Top Employer in Belgium. This award is testament to the outstanding quality of our Human Resources practices and our commitment to providing a supportive and enriching workplace for our employees.

  • Intensifying the fight against illegal gambling websites
In an increasingly digitalized world where online games are booming, illegal operators proliferate. Today, 1 in 5 Belgians already plays in the illegal circuit. Moreover, gambling advertising has been heavily restricted in Belgium since July 2023, making it even more difficult to ensure a safe gaming environment for players.

Emmanuel Mewissen, Vice President of BAGO (Belgian Association of Gambling Operators) and CEO of Gaming1:

"We believe it is essential to channel players towards the legal sector, where we can identify potentially problematic gambling behaviors and help players to ensure a more responsible and sustainable experience. But even if we strive to create a legal and safe gaming environment, we need more support from authorities to strengthen the legal sector and fight against the illegal one."

In conclusion, we are well on the way to sustainability, aware of the challenges that lie ahead, but determined to have the most positive and beneficial impact possible on the world, the environment and society, at our scale and our pace.

In our report, we also highlight how we expanded the scope of our carbon footprint assessment to include our Belgian landbased activities, supported six new nonprofit organizations with their valuable social and environmental projects during the Ardent Awards, and proudly signed the BAGO Duty of Care convention with six other operators, committing to develop a prevention policy aimed at identifying and addressing potentially problematic gambling behaviors.
